family ministries
We all live busy lives, but nothing could be quite as important as making sure our marriages and children are growing spiritually...that we are equipping parents to teach our kids and teens to live out their faith in personal and meaningful ways.
Family Ministries at The Beacon exists to: inspire, equip and support parents to give their children a biblical foundation for life.
Deuteronomy 6:6-9 states: "These commandments that I give to you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, whe you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."
(Also see Genesis 18:19, Deut. 4:10, Deut. 32:46, Joshua 24:15, Psalm
78:5-6)
These verse make the mandate clear: parents have the responsibility and
privilege to plant and nurture faith in their children. A determined attempt
to implement this one simple truth, by itself, would have a Richter-scale
impact on current trends and practices in the home. It will energize the
home around something other than television, Internet, video games and
sports.
The Beacon will be using David C. Cook's Tru curriculum in our Early Childhood and Elementary rooms. Here is a brief explanation of what Tru is all about:
Tru is a dynamic, spiritually forming, and family-empowered ministry philosophy that offers churches a vibrant weekend curriculum, as well as other family resources that meet the specific needs of today’s generation. Written in collaboration by a team of professional curriculum writers, ministry practitioners, and theological educators, Tru is uniquely developed to inspire, equip, and support parents and church leaders in their ministry to children.
The Tru team strongly believes that spiritual development can and should begin from the earliest age with parents as the primary nurturers of their children’s faith. With this in mind, Tru resources support both the church and home with a focus on knowing God personally, igniting a passion for Christ, learning to listen to His Spirit, keeping biblical content true to context, and cultivating a concern for people’s needs in our communities and the world.
For more information and feel free to call or email with specific questions.
We are so excited to be a part of this journey that our families are on.
